School Statement | |||
| Our Benedictine secondary school, with boarding facilities, carries on the tradition of the Academy for Young Noblemen, founded by Abbot Placid Seiz in 1709-1711. Today we Benedictines of Ettal aim to bring up young people in the spirit of the human ideals of the Benedictine Rule, as responsible committed Christians for today's society. In the family atmosphere of an open school, we aim to instruct the pupils entrusted to us to a high professional standard, and at the same time in their personal development give them a Christian character training. The characteristic stamp of our school is based on three pillars: 1. Instruction in ancient and modern languages (Latin, English, Greek or French): optional courses in Italian, Russian and Czech): school exchanges with England, Ireland, France and the Czech republic. Discussion of the intellectual significance to be found in foreign literature; for example, there is an optional instruction in philosophy, or a basic course in Archaeology. 2. Religious instruction and training. 3. Training in the Fine Arts (represented by art, school theatre, music). In addition there are many sporting opportunities, which take advantage of our situation in the mountains, e.g. skiing and climbing. | |||
Exchange Note | |||
| We have recently embarked on school exchange visits with schools and boarding schools in England, Ireland, France and the Czech Republic, which call for a lot of care. Therefore at the present moment we can't undertake any further exchange projects. | |||
