School Statement

HISTORY: 
'Gymnasium' founded as a public Latin school in the year 1549 
1804: Became a Boarding school. 
1850: The school adopted the reformed syllabus in Austria. 
1891: New school buildings opened. 
1938: School was closed by the Nazis. 
1945: School reopened. 
1990: Since 1990 the school has been both coeducational and a day school. 

SPECIAL FEATURES: In co-operation with the monastery Observatory and the Art Collection, natural sciences and cultural studies are both emphasised. Physical training and sport are also key features of the school. In both the boarding and day schools, a community spirit is fostered, which is supported up by the Kremsmünster Verein (Old Kremsmünsterians Society). 

FUNDING: The State pays teaching fees. Parents meet all other expenses and pay fees of around 65,00 € per month. The Monastery manages the finance of the school.
