Schulstiftung Seligenthal
Stiftung des öffentlichen Rechts
84034 Landshut
HISTORY:
Founded in 1838 as a school and Boarding Institute for women in the monastic foundation of Seligenthal. The number of pupils increased rapidly and very soon it also too in half-boarders. The Institute developed into a ladies high school and a girls high school . In 1938 the school was confiscated by the Third Reich, but re-opened in 1945 at first as a secondary school ('Gymnasium') with 8 grades. From 1954 there were 9 grades.
At present the school operates in two distinct branches: Modern Languages and Social Sciences.
In 1970 a College level was introduced. Pupils are obliged to receive instruction in their own religious denominations. Various options are available in the field of religious youth work. The school places an emphasis on cultural activities, including Drama.
FUNDING:
Approximately 80% of the costs are covered by a State subsidy, the remainder coming from income generated by the nuns actively teaching in the school.
