School Statement | |||
| According to the Rule of S. Benedict, educating the
young is one of the most important activities in a monastic community.
As a consequence, Cistercians have also attached great importance on
teaching and education. Thus working in the school in Marienstatt, which
was founded in 1910, has never been an activity of minor importance to
the monks. In the "Privates Gymnasium Marienstatt" we try to impart an understanding of the world that is determined by the teachings of S. Benedict's Rule. By way of school feasts, class outings, concerts, theatre performances and ecumenical services, we try to create a spirit of community internally. Study trips abroard, and school exchange programmes with a Belgian, an Irish, a Russian and a Hungarian school help us to widen our scope of mind towards world community. A two weeks practical in a social institution in Year 11, and sponsorships for less affluent students in all the world and in Kenia in particular, additionally try to make students perceive people beyond their everyday life in school. In order to endorse a formation in the Christian-humanistic tradition, the ancient languages Latin and Greek play a major role besides modern languages like English, French, Italian and Russian. A second emphasis is put on graphic art and music, which come alive in school choirs, bands, ensembles, exhibitions, workshops, serenades and concerts. Our everyday life in school is determined by openness towards innovative forms of teaching, like project learning, interlinking of various subjects, and student-centered forms of studying. Privates Gymnasium Marienstatt is a state-recognised and subsidised private school (grammar school) preparing for university. | |||
