School Statement

The students are very poor. The monks of "Monasterio Benedictino de Tibatí" pay for all the students. FUNDACIÓN COLEGIO SAN BENITO DE TIBATÍ The Benedictine monks of the Monastery of TIBATÍ, wishing to help with the overall development of the surrounding community, decided to start an institution to impart a humanistic and Christian technological formation of the highest quality to young people of little or no means. For this reason they started the FUNDACIÓN COLEGIO SAN BENITO DE TIBATÍ in 1979. 1. VISION The FUNDACIÓN COLEGIO SAN BENITO DE TIBATÍ attempts to respond to the expectations and educational necessities of the local Colombian community, reading the signs of the times and being faithful to the Educational Catholic Project. It seeks to give an integral formation of the highest quality and harmonize the development of the intelligence, scientific knowledge and technical knowledge together with a humanistic, ecological, participative, sporting, ethical and religious formation to all those involved in the project: parents, students, former students, teachers, administrators and support staff. 2. MISSION The FUNDACIÓN COLEGIO SAN BENITO DE TIBATÍ, basing itself on human and evangelical principles and using an interactive pedagogy in a diversified and flexible curriculum forms peaceful, honest and truthful citizens who welcome Jesus Christ as the centre of their personal, family and community lives. 3. THE ESSENCE OF THE FUNDACIÓN COLEGIO SAN BENITO DE TIBATÍ The Foundation is at the service of Catholic Education. For this reason, the integral formation that we propose here is guided by evangelical principles of Our Lord Jesus Christ, the doctrine of the Catholic Church and the norms of the Episcopal Colombian Conference. The FUNDACIÓN COLEGIO SAN BENITO DE TIBATÍ works with young people of low income (levels 1, 2 and 3) who live in the urban zones between the Autopista Norte and Cerros Orientales and between Streets 170 and 200. 4. ADMINISTRATIVE AND FINANCIAL STRATEGY The FUNDACIÓN COLEGIO SAN BENITO DE TIBATÍ is a work financed by the Benedictine monks of Colegio San Carlos (80%) and the students' families (20%). 5. DEVELOPMENT OF THE STAFF AND THE COMMUNITY The Foundation includes in its Educational Catholic Project the formation and promotion of all the educating agents: 5.1. The Family Households benefit directly through the activities planned by the Division de Desarrollo Humano (Faculty of Human Development), guided by psycho-pedagogy. The 'School for Parents' is the principal support for the family, because it refocuses the way of life is, strengthens emotional links and stimulates the interiorisation and living out of the Educational Catholic Project. The Voluntariado San Benito de Tibati promotes activities for the formation and training of the mothers of families who live in this sector, even though they may not have their children registered in the College because the objective is to help the whole of the surrounding community. The programme includes: health prevention, knitting & weaving, and the sale of clothing and toys at reasonable prices. Mothers may attend with their small children because voluntary helpers have organized a community kindergarten where their children can play and learn while their mothers are undergoing training. 5.2. The Students The Institution encourages an integral development of the young people so that they become agents of their own continual development, and agents of change in their homes, in their local community and in the zone. The diversified curriculum: Electricity and Electronics, Business and Accounting and Human Sciences, attempts to give the students a vocational and human formation, which will help them function optimally in the labour market of the moment, having obtained their Bachelors Degree in one of these subjects. Although the whole curriculum prepares students for life, the classes of Physical Education and Sport as well as the workshops of Dance, Theatre, Photography, Computer Skills and others are specifically designed to develop a healthy sporting and competitive spirit, discovering and developing artistic aptitudes, as a means of creating and strengthening habits which permit the students an integral formation of a balanced and dynamic personality. 5.3. The Teaching Staff The FUNDACIÓN COLEGIO SAN BENITO DE TIBATÍ offers its academic staff: - Lunch - Loans for education - A monthly salary higher than the standard salary scale - Bonuses of 100% of their salary in the months of December and January - Security of tenure of the teachers reflects in the stability of the teaching body, benefits the staff and the educational community. A team with an educational calling and real commitment has been created. 6. CURRENT NEEDS The FUNDACIÓN COLEGIO SAN BENITO DE TIBATÍ has three basic needs: 1. Upgrading the computing workshop with new equipment and programs 2. Updating the library with new reference books and multimedia materials 3. The construction of a cafeteria in order to offer lunch to the students Tibati: 20 years developing excellence 1998 Be Honest, Peaceful and Truthful citizens!
