School Statement | |||
| Formed in exile in 1604 in Douai, Spanish Netherlands. Expelled from France at the French Revolution. Settled at Downside in 1814. The Benedictine and Roman Catholic ethos of the school is vital. A boys school concentrating on a broad and Roman Catholic education. The school is particularly excellent in music and certain sports, and enjoys a boarding status and cosmopolitan mix. Academic status is increasingly acknowledged but individual potential and success is at the core of the school. | |||
