| On February 22nd, in 1937, the first three
Tutzing Missionary Benedictine Sisters arrived in Presidente Prudente to
found the College. They started the first chapter of a long story of
fights and victories. The College was the result of the great strength of civil, politic and ecclesiastic authorities from that time, worried about the education, culture and religious formation of a just built up city and where there was lack of culture. There was only one school group and a private school, the College São Paulo. At the time, the Government did not guarantee the women's education, beyond the Primary school. That way, it was urgent that a college could guarantee the continuity of the studying, especially to girls, not only the citizen ones, but also the ones who lived in the neighbor areas and states. On April the 5th of the same year, after the legal requirements were accomplished, the doors of The Institute Cristo Rei could be opened in a building donated by the City Council . 78 students started the long list of names registered in the registry book along the 70 years. In the same year, this number almost multiplied by three. Only 9 pupils were accepted, because of the lack of space. That way, the college that was so small since the beginning, needed to grow bigger with the building of a dormitory to the girls. In 1945 the sisters moved to their own building that went through several changes along the years. In 1958, it was inaugurated a new school building, and in 1970, the new church and the sisters residence were concluded. In 1995 the swimming pool was inaugurated for the Phisical Education classes, swimming and leisure. In all of these years the college tried to keep up with the evolution and progress of education throughout the time. The college always tried to be the pioneer and be prior ready to the education innovations, counting, today, with the best information laboratory in the city and neighbor areas. The college has tough and exigent studying. It tries to make that each student, each person that passes by, gives the best of themselves, as a way of personal fulfillment and contribution to humankind. There is a continuous strength in the way of developing the student integrally , through the college philosophy that intends to strengthen up: the spirit of culture, family, and religious, in an environment of praying and working ( Ora et Labora) from St. Benedict. Nowadays, Cristo Rei College offers Kindergarden, Primary School, Secondary School and Pre-Vestibular. | |||
